Screening & Diagnostics
We have a highly advanced screening system called an OCT Ocular Coherence Tomography. This instrument uses light to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye giving a three dimensional cross sectional view. As well as a digital photograph, the scan can check for eye conditions such as age related macular degeneration, diabetes and glaucoma.
We may ask you to undertake a field screening. What is this telling us about your vision? Via a button you register when you see a light in the Fields machine, this information is converted into a chart allowing us to see the sensitivity of your retina. If there is reduced sensitivity this can cause a field defect. We look for these as they can be caused by strokes, some tumours and certain inflammatory conditions. Field screening is also used to monitor eye conditions like glaucoma.
We perform tonometry using a state of the art Icare Tonometer. Measuring with an Icare tonometer is free from air puff, anesthesia, drops or other preparation. The Icare tonometers enable hygienic and effortless eye pressure measurement that is barely noticed by the patient, making it suitable for all patients from the very young, to the older generation.
